Dear Parents and Friends,

Let me start by saying “Thank You” to our parents and staff for all your efforts in the many events that have taken place this fall. Your continued support of our kids is key to their education.

Our Fifth Grade parent group has sponsored several fundraisers to date and have several more planned in the near future. They are an amazing group of hard-working parents.

Congratulations to our morning Phys Ed teacher, Tonya Prentice. Mrs. Prentice had her students participate in an American Heart Association “Jump for Heart-a-thon.” They raised more than $2300.00! Great job!

Speaking of amazing, CPS has nine staff members who are involved in an E-Mints program. Our staff has committed 40 hours of their time attending class and in return, their classroom will receive a Smart Board. Smart Boards are the latest classroom technology. If you have had the opportunity to see one in action, it is easy to see the educational value.

Looking ahead to December, we welcome back the Children’s Stage Adventures. Auditions will be on Monday, December 3. This continues to be a wonderful opportunity for our kids.

In our ongoing effort to lesson the parking and seating issues, we have again split the Music Concerts. Kindergarten through Grade Three students will have a Christmas Concert on December 18th at 6:30 P.M.. The Fourth and Fifth Graders, Band and Chorus will have their concert in the spring. The comments were very positive when we split the Concerts last spring.

Again, Thank You for the support you show our students and staff here at Crescent Park. Together, we will continue to provide the best learning environment for our kids.

Sincerely,

Instant Alert System for Schools
Dear MSAD #44 Parents,

Keeping parents informed and involved helps to assure student safety and improve student success. With today's on-the-go lifestyles, it has become more difficult for our schools to reach families quickly and effectively. This is why MSAD #44 has decided to implement a new system called Instant AlertTM for Schools.

Instant Alert for Schools should prove to be an essential tool for notification and communication. Within minutes of an emergency, school officials can use Instant Alert to deliver a single, clear message to the students' parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, e-mail, pager or PDA in any combination. Instant Alert can also be used to notify you of a school closing due to inclement weather. It is an equally effective way to keep you informed of everyday activities, such as changes in event times and locations.

Instant Alert is an Internet based system. It allows each family to maintain a secure, password protected online profile. Included in this letter is an instruction sheet for accessing the system and creating your individual profile. You can log into your profile at any time to update your contact information. Maintaining the accuracy of your profile will increase the ability of the school to keep you informed. I would urge you to take a few minutes today to complete this process.

Welcome to a New School Year
August 21, 2006

Dear Parents and Students,

In my new role as Teaching Principal at the Crescent Park School, I am looking forward to a new challenge and am excited about working with a talented and experienced staff! I want to commend our custodians for the great job they have done getting the building ready. I also appreciate the amount of time the teachers have spent getting their classrooms ready for the first day of school.

Our leadership team is now in place and consists of Barb Sabin, Brenda Wight, Marie Keane, and Beth Clarke. This team brings many years of experience and will help ensure that our high standards for education will continue.

We have some new people joining the Crescent Park staff this year. Judy Coolidge has returned to the Grade Two classroom. Renee Charette will be joining the Fourth Grade team and Adrianne Gallant will be the long-term substitute for Mrs. Jerome. Lou Falank will take over as the half time P.E. teacher. Cheryl Morton has also joined the staff as our new custodian.

The fall season often brings with it a multitude of activities. Here are some important dates to mark on your calendar.

• Open House - Thursday, September 21st from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

• Grandparents’ Day is another very well attended event at CPS. The date has been set for Friday, October 13th from 9:00 – 11:00 am.

• School Photo day at CPS is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th.

As you plan for the beginning of school, I want to make you aware of some changes that have been made for the coming year.

• Please note that the hot lunch price has been raised to $1.75. An envelope is included for you to use the first week.
• We ask that parents continue to send in your child’s lunch envelope at the beginning of each week. Also, we are asking parents to send in separate envelopes and money for each child.

• Children arriving at school prior to 7:45 a.m. will be sent to the Mahoosuc Kids Before School program. Students do not need to be enrolled in the program; however there will be a drop-off fee. Please contact Julie Hart at 824-7007 for more information.

• Parents who choose to walk their child/children to the classroom must park in the parking lot at the front of the building and walk their child/children safely through the front entrance.

• Parents wishing to drop their child/children off may do so via the back entrance. This change will provide for a better flow of traffic and safer environment for all.
.
• A copy of the school calendar is enclosed for your convenience.

There are several important informational documents needed by the office. These will be sent home with your child the first day of school. Please fill out and return these papers as soon as possible.

I am looking forward to welcoming our students on Wednesday, August 30th.

Sincerely,

Levi Brown
