Welcome Back
August 26

Another school year is underway! I hope everyone is returning well rested and ready to make this a great year.

There are two new faces at CPS this fall. We welcome Michelle Cote as our new Kindergarten teacher. She comes to us from Colorado with several years of teaching experience. Michelle grew up in Pittsfield, Maine, and is a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington. Secondly, we are pleased to have Marcye Gray as our Special Services Consultant. Marcye has over 30 years of educational experience and was most recently the Director of Special Education at SAD 17.

We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Nancy Young, our front office secretary for the last 15 years. Many thanks to everyone who pulled together to make the opening of the school year run as smoothly as it did. The front office will now be in Tammy House's capable hands.

A reminder that the new sidewalk is completed, and I'd like to encourage our students who are within walking distance to make good use of it. CPS will provide supervision once the students are on school grounds. The new sidewalk does not change our bike policy, as bikes are not allowed on sidewalks. Walkers should not arrive before 7:45 and will be dismissed at approximately 2:45, after all the buses have departed.

Make it a great year!

Instant Alert System for Schools
Dear MSAD #44 Parents,

Keeping parents informed and involved helps to assure student safety and improve student success. With today's on-the-go lifestyles, it has become more difficult for our schools to reach families quickly and effectively. This is why MSAD #44 has decided to implement a new system called Instant AlertTM for Schools.

Instant Alert for Schools should prove to be an essential tool for notification and communication. Within minutes of an emergency, school officials can use Instant Alert to deliver a single, clear message to the students' parents or guardians by telephone, cell phone, e-mail, pager or PDA in any combination. Instant Alert can also be used to notify you of a school closing due to inclement weather. It is an equally effective way to keep you informed of everyday activities, such as changes in event times and locations.

Instant Alert is an Internet based system. It allows each family to maintain a secure, password protected online profile. Included in this letter is an instruction sheet for accessing the system and creating your individual profile. You can log into your profile at any time to update your contact information. Maintaining the accuracy of your profile will increase the ability of the school to keep you informed. I would urge you to take a few minutes today to complete this process.

Flu Vaccine Update
Flu Vaccine up date

At this time we are planning to offer a flu vaccine clinic in January to offer the following:

Second dose seasonal flu vaccine to any student age 8 and under who had never received a dose prior to the one offered at school.

Second dose H1N1 vaccine to all students age 9 and younger

It is very important to note that permission forms must have already been received for any student who falls into the above categories. We can not accept permission forms at this time.

The date and time of this clinic will be forth coming once the vaccine is received.

If you wish your child to no longer receive any of the above vaccines, please contact the School Health office at 824-2136 ext. 312.
